Everyday Prayers

Everyday Prayers

Many times when people talk about the power of the prayer in their lives, it’s during a huge life changing event, like terminal illness, relationship problems or a new job. And like others, I’ve struggled with each of those events in my life and have stories of how my petitions were heard and answered by God. But today I want to talk about how simple everyday prayers have affected my life.

Since I’ve always lived in the plains states and worked full time, I’ve had to drive in nasty weather, including white out conditions. From the moment my vehicles wheels start turning, I call out to God to help me and other travelers get to their destination without incident. I have always made it home safely and know that God heard my prayers.

Many times when I’ve have a bad morning, I’ll ask God to help the day get better. Then something will happen. I’ll hear an old song that brings back a happy memory. A stranger will smile and say ‘good morning’.  I’ll get an email or a text from a friend I haven’t heard from in a while. I don’t believe in happenstance so I know those things are sent from God. And sure enough my day gets better!

Do you realize when God answers even your smallest prayer? I will admit I didn’t always recognize those little things that are answers to my simple prayers but now I do, I never fail to thank Him for them.

It can be so easy to take the answers for our everyday prayers for granted. This is a good reminder to give thanks, always.

    Thanks, Rose!

Isn’t it neat how God works in the seemingly smallest of ways? I’m with you–I see Him answering my simplest of daily prayers. Thanks for a great reminder, Rose.

Amen Rose. I think I’m getting good at this. I’ve been focusing on giving prayers of thanksgiving over the simple things that strike me through the day. Like when the bus comes on time. :-) Or I see a flock of geese huddled together in the snow waiting for the old man at the end of the street to come out and feed them. Or a silly old dog rolling in the first patch of grass peeking out from under the snow. Those were my thanksgiving prayers this morning on the way to work. This is my attempt at praying unceasingly.

I’ve had God paint me rainbows and sunsets and play me the songs I needed to hear. I’ve heard from friends, like you said, and I’ve turned to scriptures that I fit perfectly. I’m not as aware of these answered (even unasked) prayers as I should be or I’d have many more to share. Thank you for reminding me to keep my eyes open.

I know some people balk at the idea to “pray unceasingly,” but I don’t think it’s hard to do. It’s just our everyday, ongoing chatfest. I’m learning to do more listening than talking (hard for me!), and to keep my eyes open for those simple answers to prayer throughout the day. Even us old dogs can learn new tricks (I hope). Thanks, Rose.

    Ladies,

I really started noticing the answers to these simple prayers, even the unasked ones, when I started to try to prayer unceasingly.

Which seems to be a common theme for all of us. It really isn’t as hard to do as one thinks, is it, Stacy.

Very visually we saw how God detained us at a restaurant (with a cellphone call) and we were not involved with a horrific vehicle accident though we were moments behind it (wheels still turning on overturned cars). Ever since, i am willing to follow a slow vehicle, or stop when the light just turns yellow and so on. Those are answers to unasked prayers!

    Rose,
You took the words right out of my mouth. Guess I’ll redo my blog, huh! LOL. The one time I didn’t pray for our safety, and traveled the backroads home after dark (where the deer and the antelope play, well, maybe not antelope…) I hit a deer. Yep. Since then I always pray for my safety and the safety of those around me when I’m driving. I like to think of that deer mark in the now defunk car a “gentle” reminder to always remember these small things. And it’s always calming after I pray, to know I’m in God’s hands. Especially in inclimate weather situations!

Trapped. She hit bottom. On the elevator of life, those descending will all exit on different levels–some much lower than others. You don’t have to go all the way to the bottom. Stop now and push the “up” button. This book will show you how!
